A Dhaka tribunal said Wednesday it will decide Dec 31 if another Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Abdus Subhan, should be charged for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity and genocide during the Liberation War of 1971.

The Daily Star reported that the International Crime Tribunal-1, led by Justice A.T.M Fazle Kabir, was scheduled to take the decision on framing charges against him Wednesday but the tribunal postponed its decision to Dec 31.

The judge, however, did not elaborate on the reason for the deferment, according to the report.

The prosecution in the case had demanded Sep 15 that Abdus Subhan be pressed with nine charges and said the role of Subhan was similar to that of war crimes convict and former Jamaat chief Ghulam Azam during the war.

The prosecution said Subhan, as the vice president of the Pabna Peace Committee, "was involved in at least nine incidents of crimes against humanity and genocide".
