The BSF Thursday seized gold valued at over Rs.34 lakh in the international market from a Bangladeshi smuggler near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, officials said.
The smuggler was arrested during a special operation in North 24 Parganas district, a Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman said.
"In a special operation, we intercepted Farooque Sardar, a resident of Bangladesh's Satkhira district near the border of riverine area of Ichamati. 13 gold bars valued at Rs.34.33 lakh have been recovered from him," the BSF spokesman said.
The South Bengal Frontier of the BSF has seized gold valued at over Rs.26.13 crore and apprehended 44 smugglers so far in 2014.
