A bank official on Friday was examined as a CBI witness in a coal block allocation case allegedly involving Jharkhand Ispat Pvt. Ltd. (JIPL).
Special Judge Bharat Parashar recorded the statement of prosecution witness J.P. Bhagoria, a joint manager in Bank of Baroda, Shastri Nagar Delhi.
Bhagoria was part of the CBI team which conducted search operation in a house in Delhi on March 2013.
"The CBI officers carried out the search of the house and collected some papers lying over there," he deposed.
The case pertains to allocation of North Dhadu coal block in Jharkhand to JIPL.
In its charge sheet, the CBI had alleged that JIPL had "grossly misrepresented" a number of aspects before the ministry of steel and ministry of coal (MoC) to inflate their claim, and thereby induced the MoC officers and the screening committee to allocate the coal block to them.
The court had framed charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery of valuable security, forgery for the purpose of cheating and using a forged document as genuine against the company JIPL, and its two directors R.C. Rungta and R.S. Rungta in the case.
Both the directors are out on bail.
