Berlin, June 11 (IANS/EFE) German football giants Bayern Munich have extended contracts with defender Philipp Lahm and midfielder Thomas Muller.

"Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller have both agreed two-year contract extensions with FC Bayern Munich. Lahm has committed his future to the club until 30 June 2018, with Muller now set to stay in Munich until 30 June 2019," the Bavarian club said in a statement on its official website, reports EFE.

"Both Lahm and Muller are very important members of the FC Bayern squad. Both have stayed loyal to the club since the start of their careers and will continue to play an important role here in the future," said Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"We're delighted both players have committed to Bayern Munich for the long term," added Rummenigge.

Munich-born Lahm commented: "Both the club and my management team decided at fundamentally the same time to open talks, because it seemed to both sides a good point in time for a contract extension. It is definitely my last contract and I will see out my career with FC Bayern. This is what I always wanted. I'm extremely pleased and happy about this."

While Muller commented: "Shortly before the start of the World Cup, I'm very happy about extending my contract with FC Bayern until 2019. We held very good talks with the management of the club, which made it clear to me that I'm in the right place here. I have the feeling I'm an important component in the club's plans. FC Bayern Munich has been my club since 2000 and will remain my club in the years to come."
