The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an open tender process for global broadcasting rights for the glamorous Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Sunday.

"We are happy to announce the tender process for IPL Global Media Rights (TV and Digital)," BCCI President Anurag Thakur declared at a press conference.

The IPL's broadcasting rights are presently held by Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI). The deal ends after the cash-rich Twenty20 league's next edition on 2017.

The calling for an open tender for the broadcasting rights is in line with Justice Lodha Committee's recommendations for the BCCI to be more transparent in its financial dealings.

World Sports Group (WSG) bagged the IPL broadcasting rights for a whopping $918 million in 2008 for a tenure of 10 years.

WSG then signed a deal with Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd. (MSM) that made Sony the official broadcaster of IPL matches.
