"There is alarming deterioration of economic and living conditions which is forcing people to commit suicides. The strong-arm tactics of the Trinamool Congress has resulted in the companies fleeing, thereby robbing (people of their) livelihoods," Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat said here.
Karat said due to non-payment of salaries, five state transport employees committed suicide while nine closed tea garden workers died due to starvation and malnutrition. He also alleged that debt-stressed farmers were taking their own lives.
"Crime is constantly on the rise. There is political violence as also intra-party feud within the Trinamool. The West Bengal government is a failure on all fronts. The people of Bengal have realised what kind of party they have voted into office," he said.
Karat also took a dig at Banerjee saying she had the penchant of blaming the CPI-M and the Left Front for everything and anything.
"The chief minister has a stock reply for all problems - blaming the CPI-M and the Left Front," he said.
