West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan Monday said he hoped the panchayat elections in the state would be held on time.
"I will be meeting the panchayat minister (Subarata Mukherjee) today (Monday) and hopefully the panchayat elections will be held on time," Governor Narayanan said.
Following a bitter legal battle, the election commission and the state government finally concurred on the three-phase elections for 17 districts to be held July 2, 6 and 9.
The revised poll schedule was announced by the government in the month of May, following a direction from the Calcutta High Court to conduct and conclude the polls before July 15.
