Bengal mountaineers safe at Everest base camp: Mamata

In a major relief following a massive earthquake in Nepal, West Bengal Chief Minister on Saturday announced that mountaineers from the state on an expedition to Mount Everest were safe.

"Some good news. Rudra Haldar of West Bengal Police informs from Everest base camp that #Bengal climbers are safe #earthquake #alerts," Banerjee tweeted.

She listed the names of 15 mountaineers.

"These 15 mountaineers are safe at Everest, Annapurna and Cho You. Safe at Everest: Debraj Dutta, Ramesh Ch Roy, Anand Kr Ram, Md Ghazali Khan. Safe at Everest: Goutam Ghosh, Rudra Haldar, Malay Mukherjee, Sunita Hazra, Jyotsna Sen, Satyarup Siddhanta, Pradip Sahu, Lipika Biswas. Safe at Annapurna: Dipankar Ghosh. Safe at Cho You (Tibet) - Debasis Biswas."

The earthquake, felt in most parts of India, killed three people in West Bengal and injured at least 70.
