Four persons including the owners of a private nursing home were arrested on Sunday for allegedly inflating a patient's medical bill and abetting suicide of his father, police said.

Four people including the three owners of P.G Nursing Home in West Bengal's Burdwan district were detained for interrogation on Saturday after a patient's father allegedly committed suicide at not being able to fully pay the medical bills demanded by it.

"We have arrested Sheikh Joynal, Munsi Muhammed, Hasibul Kabir and Souvik Santra on Sunday and slapped with charges of cheating (IPC 415) and abetment of suicide (IPC 306)," a senior police official said.

The incident came to notice after Tapan Lete, father of a patient admitted to the nursing home, killed himself for allegedly being unable to pay the medical bills of Rs 44,000 for his daughter.

The incident came days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, amid several complaints of "unethical moneymaking" and "negligence" against private hospitals, met managements of top private hospitals and suggested they have a humane approach towards the patients.
