The West Bengal government will frame an auto policy to rein in errant three-wheeler drivers, following a spate of rash driving cases, with the latest incident leading to the death of a 20-year-old undergraduate.

The state's Food and Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mullick was also heckled by an auto driver a day ago.

"There are a lot of illegal vehicles plying in the city. We have formed a task force and in consultation with the Kolkata Police and Bidhannangar Police Commissionerate, we will formulate an auto policy, in accordance with the law," Bengal transport minister Suvendu Adhikary told the media here.

A girl, a B.Com first year student of Jaipuria college, was declared dead at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, where she was rushed after the accident at the Gauribari crossing on Friday.

Police said the auto driver lost control and hit a bus resulting in the accident.

The driver and three other passengers were also injured and are being treated at the hospital.
