Bengali writer meets President

Ranjan Banerjee, eminent writer who has been staying at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here as writer-in-residence from September 1 to 7, called on President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday.

Banerjee is a creative writer in Bengali who has written at least 30 books. He also writes for leading Bengali daily Sangbad Pratidin.

He is a Professor of English literature, who mostly writes on Rabindranath Tagore and 19th century Renaissance of Bengal. He has also written best selling fiction, a release said.

The 'in-residence' programme at the Rashtrapati Bhavan was launched by the President on December 11, 2013, to provide writers and artists an opportunity to stay there and be a part of the life of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

It is intended to honour and recognise eminent and established artists and writers as well as young upcoming talent from different parts of the country.
