The leader of the People's Democratic Party of Bhutan, which won the recent elections, thanked India for its support and said he would visit India soon.

"My party and I attach great importance to our relations with India which has been consciously nurtured and strengthened over many decades," PDP chief Tshering Tobgay said in a letter, dated Wednesday, to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He accepted Manmohan Singh's invitation to visit India at the earliest opportunity.

The PDP won a decisive victory in parliamentary elections in Bhutan on July 14, capturing 32 seats in the 47-member lower house, compared to 15 won by the incumbent Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) party.
