A BJP delegation on Thursday called on Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung to complain against the city government's introduction of the VAT Amendment Bill, increased expenditure on advertisements and publicity, and denial of information to RTI activists.

The Bharatiya Janata Party delegation, led by the party's Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay, submitted memorandum to Jung and urged him to look into the complaints.

"The Delhi government claims to have a surplus budget. Then what is the logic of bringing a proposal to raise VAT (value-added tax)? It raises suspicion," Upadhyay said.

The BJP accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government of using public funds to glorify Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

"The government has hiked the advertisement budget by 200 percent and is misusing it for glorification of the chief minister in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines," he said.

The delegation also raised the issue of appointment of a large number of co-terminous employees in the government, many of whom were under-qualified.

"Do these appointments comply with the legal necessities," asked Upadhyay.

Stating that the Delhi government was denying information to Right to Information activists, the BJP urged Jung to direct all departments to provide full information.

"The Lt. Governor has assured us that he would seek information on the issues raised by us," Upadhyay said.
