The BJP Thursday conveyed its willingness to consider suggestions from farmers on the land acquisition law amendments to resolve the impasse on the issue inside and outside the parliament.

A committee constituted by Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on the land acquisition law continued to meet farmers from different parts of the country and was told that there was no independent authority to deal with complaints concerning compensation and they had to go to courts.

A party release said that "most farmers were not against acquisition" but wanted to convey their views on compensation. It said that the committee was paying utmost attention to suggestions from farmers and would mention them in its report to the party leadership.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, defending the changes made in the land acquisition law, Thursday said the Act enacted by the previous United Progressive Alliance government was "defective" and "against India's security interests".
