BJP leader Vijender Gupta Thursday submitted a written complaint against circulation of inflammatory SMSes that, he said, affected the party's image, according to police here.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader met Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi at Police Headquarters and complained that the messages might disturb peace and harmony in the city.

Confirming the news, Gupta told IANS: "I met the commissioner and he assured me that he would take action against such activity."

Gupta's complaint said that a "malicious SMS campaign is being run to disseminate fear among the minority community and to instigate riots in the country on May 16, 2014".

Citing media reports, the complaint said that such messages being spread to create an atmosphere of communal tension through rumor-mongering.
