The Congress moved the Election Commission over the BJP manifesto released Monday, saying that it was violation of the model code of conduct and urged the panel to pass orders to stop its publicity and circulation.
In a complaint to the poll panel, Congress treasurer Motilal Vora said that the manifesto has been published by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after commencement of polling in some constituencies in Assam and Tripura.
The Congress also referred to mention of Ram Temple at Ayodhya in the manifesto.
"By making this an issue as a part of the manifesto by the BJP, it contravenes the basic concept of secularism under the constitution," the party said.
The party urged the poll panel to pass orders "so that the manifesto is not published or shown, distributed or in any other manner circulated in public, print and electronic media or at any other place".
