Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh Sunday congratulated Iran's president-elect Hassan Rouhani, expressing hope that moderate voices would now be strengthened in Iran.
"Congratulations to Iran's president elect Mr. Hassan Rouhani on his remarkable victory. We hope moderate voices will now be strengthened," Rajnath Singh tweeted Sunday.
"A moderate and stable Iran is in India's interest and it could bring peace and progress not only to the Gulf region but also to the whole world. It seems Mr Hassan Rouhani has the ability to unlock Iran's true potential with his strong belief in deliberation and hope," he said.
Moderate presidential candidate Hassan Rouhani won the Iran's presidential election by securing over 50 percent of votes, Iran's interior minister said Saturday evening.
The Iranian president-elect competed with three conservative candidates and two independents, and came out victorious to most Iranians' surprise.
