The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday flagged off vehicles carrying flood relief material for the aid of those marooned in the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh.
After flagging off the vehicles, BJP state unit chief and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the first lot was being sent to Balrampur and separately relief material was being sent by the Kanpur district unit as well.
He added that in the coming days, relief material would be sent to different flood-affected districts every day.
Party leaders said that while the state government was doing its bit in sending relief material like dry ration, food packets, medicines and drinking water, the party was morally bound to extend all possible help to the people affected by the devastating floods.
While heavy rains have lashed most parts of the state over the past one month, the situation in many districts of eastern UP like Balrampur, Gonda, Siddharthanagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shravasti and Gorakhpur is critical due to the water released by floods in neighbouring Nepal.
