Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday accused the BJP and Trinamool Congress of misusing public money for party events and advertisement campaigns and described Congress as the only alternative in the 2019 elections.
Claiming there is not much of a difference in the functioning of the BJP-led central government and the Trinamool Congress government in Bengal, Gogoi alleged that both use undemocratic means to stifle the opposition voice by capturing all institutions and exploiting the media.
"While BJP and Trinamool are busy in misusing common people's money to take forward their own agendas and boost an individual's ego, Congress is the only political party that works towards nation building and people's welfare," said Gogoi, also the party's observer for West Bengal.
"There is not much of a difference in the functioning of the BJP government at the centre and the Trinamool government. Both rely heavily on advertising, spending public money on bigger events but yield little results on development and has nothing to say about jobs and economy," he alleged.
When asked whether Congress would fight the 2019 elections in Bengal by forging an alliance with any political outfits, Gogoi said it is up to the state Congress leadership to decide and pointed out that the party high command would be fully supportive of the decision.
The Congress MP from Assam said that the party would focus on "aggressive organisation building" in Bengal through enhanced usage of technology to appeal primarily to the youth, while reaching out to the people across all communities.
