Sprint super star Usain Bolt has announced his intention to call curtains on his Olympic career after the Rio Games in Brazil later this year.

Bolt's announcement that his year's Olympics will be his last erases the possibility of extending his career to the 2020 games in Tokyo, Japan, reports CMC.

"It'll definitely be my last Olympics," Bolt said on Tuesday.

"It's going to be hard to go four more years for me, to keep the motivation that I want, especially if I accomplish what I want to in Rio."

In January, the Jamaican sprint sensation had hinted at the prospect of extending his Olympic career beyond Brazil on the basis of comments reportedly made by his coach Glen Mills suggesting his fitness would carry him through to Japan.

"It's going to be hard to keep the motivation to go on for four more years," said Bolt.

"So it'll definitely be my last one."

Bolt, who already has six gold medals from his performances in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, hopes to take his tally to nine gold medals during the Olympic Games in Rio this August.

"My biggest dream at the Olympics is to win three gold medals again," he said.

"That's my focus, that's what I want. And that's what I'm aiming for because that's my goal and that's my dream."
