With assembly elections likely to be announced in the next few days, the Haryana government Wednesday announced a big hike in the honorarium given to functionaries of civic bodies in the state.
In certain cases, the hike is over three to four times the current honorarium.
The honorarium bonanza will benefit mayors, senior deputy mayors, deputy mayors, presidents, vice-presidents and members of municipal corporations, councils and municipal committees in the state.
Mayors of municipal corporations will get Rs. 20,500 per month instead of the current monthly honorarium of Rs. 7,500, and senior deputy mayors would get Rs. 16,500 per month instead of Rs. 6,000 per month, said the official spokesman.
The deputy mayor would get an honorarium of Rs. 13,000 per month instead of Rs. 5,000 and municipal corporation members would get Rs. 10,500 per month instead of Rs. 2,500 per month they are paid currently.
In case of municipal councils, the president would get an honorarium of Rs. 10,500 per month instead of Rs. 3,000 per month now. The vice-president and members will get Rs 7,500 instead of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,500 per month respectively.
The municipal committee president will get Rs. 6,500 now instead of Rs. 2,500 per month. The vice-president and members will get Rs. 4,500 per month instead of Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000 per month.
