Thousands of motorsport fans from all over Southern Africa have descended upon Botswana for an annual off-road desert race.
The race, named Toyota Kalahari 1,000km desert race, is the biggest off-road racing event in Southern Africa and has over the years become the highlight of Botswana's sporting and entertainment calendar, reports Xinhua.
The main vehicle race started Saturday and will end late Sunday. The vehicles, in their different categories from special to production vehicles battle it out in the vast Botswana desert in the south western part of the country.
The competitors completed a 500km lap on the first day and will do the final 500km on the second day to complete the gruelling race that takes them over shrubs, bushes, rivers and all forms of difficult terrain.
