Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca has been sacked by Brazil giants Palmeiras, less than four months after taking the role.
The 56-year-old, a former striker for Argentina's national team, was told of his fate during a meeting with Palmeiras officials Monday, the Sao Paulo club said on its official website, reports Xinhua.
The decision follows Palmeiras' 0-1 loss to Internacional Saturday, a result that left them 16th in Brazil's Serie A standings.
Assistant coach Alberto Valentim has been named the team's interim coach.
The eight-time Brazilian champions returned to Brazil's top flight this year after being relegated for only the second time in their history in 2012.
Palmeiras' next Serie A match is Saturday's away trip to Atletico Paranaense.
