Border Security Force (BSF) troopers seized 14 kg of heroin along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, a BSF spokesman said on Saturday.

The heroin was seized near Border Out Post (BoP) Chhanmulla, nearly 300 km from here, in the Amritsar sector.

Early Saturday, BSF troopers challenged smugglers after noticing their movement from the Pakistan side. After an exchange of fire, the smugglers escaped under the cover of darkness and standing crop.

The BSF troopers later recovered 14 packets of heroin the smugglers were trying to push through a PVC pipe across the barbed wire fence on the border.

The heroin is valued at Rs.70 crore in the international market.

The BSF has seized nearly 248 kg heroin along the Punjab border this year, as against 361 kg in the Punjab sector in 2014, the highest in any year.
