Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Tuesday seized more than 12 kg of silver granule and ornaments worth Rs 5.22 lakh from West Bengal's Malda district, an officer said.
Acting on a tip-off, BSF troopers at Chadnichak outpost in Malda district launched a special operation in the area on Tuesday afternoon and seized the silver in the form of ornaments and granules concealed in plastic bags.
However, the smugglers managed to flee, an officer said.
"The special patrolling party challenged the suspected persons near the India-Bangladesh International border at Chadnichak outpost and seized 7.2 kg of silver granules and 5.1 kg of silver ornaments from plastic bags deserted by the smugglers," R.P.S. Jaiswal, DIG (Public Relations Officer) of BSF South Bengal Frontier, said in a release.
The South Bengal Frontier of the BSF has already seized 32.3 kg of silver in 2017, the official added.
