Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized eight packets of silver ornaments, weighing 8.74 kg and valued approximately at Rs 3.61 lakh, near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Nadia district, a BSF statement said on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the border force laid a trap near the India-Bangladesh Border Road (IBBR) in Krishnanagar sector on Monday and observed some suspicious movements in the afternoon. Two-three miscreants were trying to throw some packets over the India-Bangladesh Border Fence (IBBF).

The BSF personnel challenged the miscreants but they managed to run away towards the Indian side leaving behind some packets, the statement said.

On a thorough search of the area, the troopers recovered eight packets covered with brown colour tape and after opening the packets, some silver ornaments weighing approximately 8.74 kg having a value of about Rs 3.61 lakh.

The seized items were handed over to the Krishnaganj Police Station in Nadia.

This year, the BSF's South Bengal Frontier has seized 27.187 kg of silver valued at over Rs 8.69 lakh and apprehended a silver smuggler.
