The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved a new central sector Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-processing Clusters (SAMPADA).
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the objective of the scheme was to implement agriculture, modernise processing and decrease agri-waste.
With an allocation of Rs 6,000 crore, SAMPADA is expected to benefit 20 lakh farmers.
