In its continuing campaign against black money stashed away abroad, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendments to the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between India and Tajikistan, an official statement said.

"The Union Cabinet has approved the protocol amending the agreement between India and Tajikistan for avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income," a cabinet communique said.

"The protocol, after it enters into force, will enable sharing of information exchanged under the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement with other law enforcement agencies for non-tax purposes," the statement added.

The India-Tajikistan Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement was approved by the Indian government in March 2008 in order to avoid double taxation on the same taxpayer in both countries, towards promoting mutual trade and investment.
