The Modi government on Monday gave one year extension, till June 2019, to Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha, who will now be in the post till the next Lok Sabha elections.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved extension in service of Pradeep Kumar Sinha as Cabinet Secretary for a further period of one year beyond June 12, 2018," an order by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

Sinha was appointed to the post in May 2015 for a two-year term and assumed office on June 13, 2015. He had been given one-year extension last year.

He had succeeded Ajit Seth who had also been given extensions.

Sinha is a 1977-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh. He was Power Secretary before his elevation as Cabinet Secretary and had also served in several other ministries, including Shipping and Petroleum and Natural Gas.
