Two unidentified men were killed and at least two others injured on Saturday after a car ran over them as they were resting on a footpath in north Delhi, police said.
Police said accused driver -- which the Investigating Officer refused to identify since he is not authorised to speak to the media -- was on his way from Faridabad to Usmanpur in a Toyota Etios when the accident occurred around 12 p.m. near Hanuman Mandir in the Kashmiri Gate area.
The injured were shifted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital here, where their condition is said to be stable. Police said more people were injured, but they had left before police reached the spot.
"As the driver reached a bridge near the temple, he was confused as to which road he ought to take. He lost control in the process and ran his vehicle over the victims resting on the footpath near the bridge," a police officer told IANS.
"Prima facie, it doesn't look like the driver is drunk, but we're waiting for his medical report."
Police has registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver.
