CBI achieved over 68 percent conviction rate in 2013

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concluded trials in 1,225 cases with a conviction rate of over 68 percent while it registered 1,131 cases and disposed of 1,070 in 2013, the agency said Tuesday.

Giving a snapshot of its work in 2013, the CBI, in a statement, listed key cases in which charge sheets were filed and cases registered.

Some of the cases in which the agency filed charge sheets were the disproportionate assets case against a former chief minister of Jharkhand, illegal excavation of iron ore against a former Karnataka minister, the killings of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Ishrat Jahan in alleged fake encounters, etc.

The CBI also listed some of the prominent cases it registered, including the alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks, procurement of VIP choppers from a Britain-based firm, etc.
