The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday said it has registered a case against unidentified Air India officials for illegally purchasing software worth Rs 225 crore for the national passenger carrier from a German company in 2011.

The agency filed the case on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and misconduct by a government servant under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint of the Central Vigilance Commission.

"We received the Central Vigilance Commission complaint a few days ago and filed a case against unidentified Air India officials for alleged improper procurement of software worth Rs 225 crore in 2011," Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spokesperson R.K. Gaur told IANS.

The national passenger carrier had the third-largest domestic market share in November 2016 after IndiGo and Jet Airways.
