The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved the opening of 50 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under the civil/defence sector.

The decision was taken at a CCEA meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The CCEA has approved the proposal for opening 50 new Kendriya Vidyalayas under civil/defence sector in view of high demand for such schools for their quality of education and excellent results," an official release said.

It said the project cost based on Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) norms is Rs 1,160 crore.

"New schools will be opened for Classes I to V for which 650 regular posts will be created," the release added.

It said that as higher classes are added and schools become full-fledged with two sections for each class, about 4,000 regular posts -- around 2,900 teaching and around 1,100 non-teaching -- will be required to be filled.
