What is the connection between kinetic movement in particle physics and dance? That's what acclaimed Swiss choreographer Gilles Jobin tries to explore with his innovative 'Quantum' show, with six dancers gyrating to the rhythm of the universe. The show will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Kamani

auditorium here.

The show is inspired by Jobin's three- month residency at CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research). The rumblings of the large hadron collider (LHC), captured by composer Carla Scaletti and the lumino-kinetic installation of the German artist, Julius von Bismarck, accompany the dancers to celebrate the dance of the universe through the movement of elementary particles.

'Quantum' takes the quark as the muse, fusing choreography and installation art into an ode to subatomic randomness where the six dancers vibrate, scatter, and whirl beneath a gyrating quartet of industrial lamps programmed to respond to the slightest movement, while Scaletti's soundscape from particle collision data provides the sonic ether.

In this scintillating show, the dancers constantly attract and repel each other, as if caught in a force field, which all matter is subjected to. Fascinatingly fluid diagonals, paths that cross and light touches are all executed with perfect control as the dancers follow their own trajectory with its varying geometry. The audience can look forward to brainstorming sessions on both days by Prof. Florencia Canelli (Zurich University) and Prof. B Ananthanaryan Chairman Centre for High Energy Physics (IISc-Bengaluru) with Gilles Jobin to discuss the relation between dance and science.

The show, organised by the Embassy of Switzerland along with Pro Helvetia Swiss Art Council and Swissnex India, will also travel to Bengaluru. It marks the "Year of Swiss Innovation in India 2015-16", said the organisers.

The shows will begin at 7 p.m. .
