The Central Command of the Indian Army celebrated Vijay Diwas here on Saturday.
Brave soldiers of the three wings of the armed forces, who gave the nation its biggest military victory on December 16, 1971, were remembered and honoured at Smritika War Memorial in Lucknow Cantonment.
Lt Gen B.S. Negi, Army Commander, Central Command, accompanied by officers and soldiers of Lucknow garrison and veterans paid rich floral tributes and laid wreaths at Smritika War Memorial amidst soul stirring patriotic tunes played by the military band.
The General Officer saluted the martyrs, the Last Post was sounded and a two-minute silence was observed.
Lt Gen Negi later felicitated the veterans and "veer naris" (brave women), which was followed by an interaction between the serving and retired fraternity. The veterans reminisced about the war, the victory and their contribution towards achieving it.
