Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot on Thursday announced the construction of an international standard sports stadium for the differently-abled in Meghalaya's capital city.
The stadium, to cost Rs 200 crore, is one of five such facilities that the government proposes to establish in five states, including Meghalaya.
Gehlot said that the decision to set up the stadium was taken after the state Chief Minister approached him with a proposal and also provided 50 acres of land.
He said that a Detailed Project Report will be prepared very soon, and the stadium should come up before the 2022 National Games to be held in Meghalaya.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the idea of setting up a stadium came four months ago when he met Gehlot and discussed a range of issues.
