Five-star hotel Le Royal Meridien on Wednesday announced the cancellation of its New Year's Eve celebrations as it was time for prayers for the flood-affected people.
In a statement issued here, the hotel said its chairman P.G. Periasamy declared that the human misery due to the unprecedented rains and the suffering of the millions need support, sympathy and togetherness to come out of this calamity.
New Year's Day should be the day for prayers this time around and not for revelry, the hotel said.
Installation of the tallest Christmas tree in town, which has become a unique annual feature of the hotel, was also cancelled.
