About 50 underprivileged children from slums across Delhi participated in a photography workshop here Monday on World Photography Day where they highlighted the reasons keeping them away from schools through photos.

Part of NGO Child Rights and You's (CRY) 'Click Rights' campaign which aims at pictorially highlighting the barriers to education, the children, armed with a camera and tips from professional photographers, showcased their "barriers" in photographs.

"The core idea behind this workshop was to let them capture the thoughts and situations that these children face in their day to day life which keep them away from getting access to education," said Soha Moitra, regional director (north), CRY.

"Select pictures will be showcased at an exhibition from Aug 25," added Moitra.

Children from all CRY projects in Delhi were invited to be a part of this unique workshop.

CRY in July had launched a similar initiative in which people were urged to upload pictures on the internet of children not attending schools.

According to Moitra, these steps are aimed at educating the voters especially the youngsters who would be voting for the first time in the upcoming elections.

"As the country approaches another general election, we are hoping to mobilise the 110 million first-time voters aged between 18-22 years... we hope that they will speak up for the right of every child to a healthy, happy childhood," said Moitra.

CRY will share the pictures collected as evidence in its advocacy efforts at the local and national level.
