A Chinese Foreign Ministry official called upon the international community to pursue a political solution to the Syrian crisis through dialogue.

"We are concerned about the current Syrian situation," the official told a press conference on October 10, while bulding a case in favour of ending the five-year-long conflict.

According to local media reports, two opposing draft resolutions- one prepared jointly by France and Spain and another by Russia failed to gain approval from the UN Security Council on October 8.

China called for a political solution that will have the  United Nations and its Security Council assume charge as the primary mediator, while continuing to adhere to the principle of respecting Syrian aspirations and letting them decide their own fate.

Efforts shall be made along four parallel tracks, namely the ceasefire, negotiation, humanitarian assistance and a joint campaign against terrorism, the official added.

The official stressed on the unity of international community, expressing hope that all parties concerned would work together, build consensus and push for political solution to Syrian crisis, so as to maintain peace and stability in Syria and its neighbouring regions.
