Chinese President Xi Jinping said Monday that his country will stick to its stand on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and safeguarding its peace and stability.

The problems should be resolved through dialogue and consultation rather than armed confrontation, Xi said here during a meeting with South Korean President Park Geun-hye, ahead of the 21st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit slated for Monday and Tuesday in Bali.

There has been some relaxation in tension on the Korean Peninsula. Relations between South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have made some progress over the past four months, Xi added.

Xi hoped that the respective parties could work together and create favorable conditions for re-starting the 60-party talks.

Speaking on the occasion, Park Geun-hye said South Korea is willing to enhance communication and coordination with China in various fields.
