China will send a 140-strong riot squad to Liberia on a UN peace-keeping mission, the government has announced.

According to China's Ministry of Public Security, a 14-member first batch of the squad will set off from Beijing Monday, reported Xinhua Sunday.

The group includes a deputy chief of the squad, a liaison officer, and personnel from the logistics, combat and medical sector

After reaching there, they will set up camps and lay the groundwork for the arrival of the rest of the peace-keeping squad.

The second batch will leave for Liberia "in a few days", the ministry added.

Since 2000, China has dispatched peace-keeping policemen to at least eight task regions, including Timore-Leste, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Liberia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Haiti, and South Sudan.
