China, Vietnam to step up anti-drugs cooperation

China and Vietnam at a sixth bilateral meeting on Thursday announced strengthening their anti-drugs cooperation in an effort to rid the menace of drugs in the two countries.

The meeting held by Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security talked about improving anti-drugs cooperation level between the two countries, and of great significance their work to regional and global anti-drug situation, Xinhua news agency reported.

After the fifth bilateral meeting in China, the two countries carried out a narcotics suppression campaign along the shared border and gained practical results.

During the first half of 2016, Vietnamese authorities have detected over 10,000 drug-related cases and arrested over 15,000 persons with a large quantities of heroin, opium, synthetic drugs and marijuana among others, whereas from the beginning of 2015 to the end of the first quarter of 2016, China has detected 78 drug cases, arrested over 100 persons and seized 171 kg of drugs.

Vietnam became a hub of transporting drugs originating from the Golden Triangle and Golden Crescent areas to China, the meeting noted.

Participants at the meeting shared information on drug criminals as well as information on the drug addicts and anti-drug education in both the countries.
