President Xi Jinping Tuesday urged the US to jointly shape the new model of China-US relations.
Xi told visiting President Barack Obama in a meeting that China and the US share a clear strategic target of building a new model of major-country relations, Xinhua reported.
"We should not let the new model stay as a concept or stop at its early harvest. We should push it forward," Xi said.
A good China-US relationship is in the interests of both countries and conducive to the Asia-Pacific and the world, Xi said, adding that leaders of both countries share this strategic understanding.
From a strategic and long-term perspective, China and the US should build their relations step by step, Xi said.
Obama told Xi that the US is ready to work with China to realise this target.
Obama attended the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting that concluded Tuesday and will pay a state visit to China afterwards.
