Top Chinese leaders have stressed on the need to improve the working and living conditions in rural areas, citing the example of Zhejiang province where it has been done in last decade.
Hailing the achievements in improving rural environment in Zhejiang, President Xi Jinping called for spreading the province's experience nationwide, Xinhua reported Wednesday.
Zhejiang, located on China's eastern coast, launched a project in 2003 to renovate houses and living facilities in the countryside, improve rural design and planning, and enhance rural ecological and human environment. It proved to be a huge success.
The Chinese president noted that governments in other areas should tailor measures to cater to their own circumstances rather than simply duplicating Zhejiang's approach.
Premier Li Keqiang also urged local authorities to show respect for farmers' willing, pay attention to rural features and carry on traditional culture in the process of improving rural habitation while devising measures or policies.
China's hundreds of millions of rural citizens expect better living conditions, Li said.
