Police in Pakistan on Monday registered cases relating to Sunday's twin bombings at churches in Lahore that claimed 15 lives and left over 70 people injured.

Police have filed cases under Sections 302, 109 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) at the Nishtar Colony police station, Dawn reported.

The cases were filed on complaints by Father Francis Gulzar and Father Irshad.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigations), Rana Ayyaz Saleem, said that senior police officials were holding consultations over the registration of a case over the lynching of two suspects by enraged protesters.

The consequences of the attacks are being felt across the country with schools closing down and protests being held across various cities.

The bombings on Sunday occurred during prayers at two churches located around half a kilometre apart in the city's Youhanabad neighbourhood, which is home to more than 100,000 Christians.
