The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) is organising a safe food walkathon here on Sunday to raise awareness of how risks involved in handling, preparation, and storage of food can be avoided.
To be inaugurated by Dimple Yadav, the wife of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the walkathon is part of a larger campaign called 'Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan', to sensitise the consumers, street food vendors and the industry to the need for hygienic practices, an organiser told IANS.
The first safe food walkathon was held on October 4 in New Delhi. Two more walkathons will take place this year, in Kolkata (December 13) and Bangalore (December 20). Also scheduled are 'food safety summits and master classes' on December 2 and 3.
Over 2,000 school children were expected to participate in the walkathon here, in addition to government officials and dignitaries, said Gaurav Prakash, founder chair of Young Indians, the youth wing of the CII.
