The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Wednesday condemned the attacks on Left activists and offices in Tripura allegedly by rightwing "hooligans" after the BJP took power in the state.
In a statement, the CITU alleged that the BJP had aligned with separatist forces and used money and muscle power to win the Tripura Assembly elections.
It said the ruling party had now "unleashed a reign of terror on members and supporters of the Left parties and CITU, attacking their houses and offices throughout the state".
The statement said hundreds of people were injured in attacks on 1,500 houses and hundreds of offices of Left and Left-affiliated groups.
"These attacks ... again demonstrate the utter contempt of the RSS and the BJP for democracy and democratic institutions. They expose the anti-national character of these organisations which had no qualms in joining the separatist forces to come to power."
