Cape Cobras defeated Barbados Tridents in the Super Over after both teams were tied at 174 runs from their allotted 20 overs in a Champions league T20 (CLT20) cricket match here Friday.
In the Super Over eliminator, Barbados Tridents needed 12 runs but managed to score only 10 off spinner Sybrand Engelbrecht.
Earlier in the day, Cape Cobras won the toss and sent Barbados Tridents into bat. A superb unbeaten 111 from 68-balls (10x4s, 5x6s) from Jonathan Carter pulled Barbados to 174/8.
Dislan Munaweera gave them a brilliant start with a 42 off 21 balls, studded with five fours and two sixes, and it seemed they were set for a bigger total but late wickets arrested their surge. But later Carter took charge to take them to a challenging total.
In reply, Cape Cobras, aided by useful contributions from Hashim Amla (59 off 42) and Richard Levi (39 off 18), matched the score.
Cape Cobras were, at one point, cruising towards the target at 126 for two with five overs left, but Jeevan Mendis pulled things back for the Caribbean side and extended the game to the Super Over, claiming four wickets for 27 runs.
Brief scores: Barbados Tridents 174/8 in 20 overs (Jonathan Carter 111, Dilshan Munaweera 42; Sybrand Engelbrecht 2/24). Cape Cobras 174/5 in 20 overs (Hashim Amla 59, Richard Levi 39; Jeevan Mendis 4/27).
