The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the national capital was hiked by Rs.2 a kg, state-run Indraprastha Gas Limited said Monday. This is the second increase since January. Piped cooking gas (PNG) rates were also hiked by Re.1 per unit.
The new rates would take effect from Monday midnight.
The decision would result in the CNG consumer price hike of Rs.2.25 per kg in the Uttar Pradesh towns of Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
The new consumer price will be Rs.41.90 per kg in Delhi and Rs.47.35 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
The new consumer price of PNG for Delhi households would be revised from Rs.23.50 per unit to Rs.24.50 per unit up to consumption of 30 units in two months with effect from June 25.
Beyond consumption of 30 units in two months, the rate in Delhi would be Rs.40.50 per unit, a release from IGL said.
"The recent steep appreciation of the dollar vis-a-vis rupee as well as the increased dependence on imported R-LNG (re-gasified liquid natural gas) has resulted in major increase in our input cost of gas, which has necessitated the increase in retail prices of CNG and PNG," said IGL.
