State-run Coal India Ltd (CIL) Monday said it produced 70.30 million tonnes (mt) of coal in April and May against a target of 71.65 mt.
The coal behemoth also missed its offtake target for April-May as it sold 78.16 mt of the fuel against the target of 80.95 mt.
While the public sector miner's production during the two months this year registered a marginal 1.3 percent growth over the same period last year, offtake grew by two percent over the year ago period, CIL said in a filing to BSE.
